We celebrated the turning of the year last night with simple homemade pizza, movies, chatting and an early night - I love to rise early on the first of January and have a productive day while most of the rest of the country sits nursing a hangover!
The Christmas period did not go at all as planned. Cameron has been quite ill (although on the road to recovery now, though) and then there was a series of unfortunate events where each appliance in the house - boiler, fridge, washing machine etc. - broke down during the week and the wild weather was not very kind to the garden and left us with a case of cabin fever. It was a fitting end to what was a rather untriumphant year for me.
So, welcome 2013, we are very happy to see you!
There's nothing quite like the clean slate of a new year to fill your heart with hope and optimism, don't you agree?
Last year I set myself a bunch of (what felt like) rigid goals and made promises here hoping for accountability but I quickly found it too much pressure and typically ended up procrastinating about much of it.
This year I wont be setting any concrete goals but I do have a very clear idea of the directions I want to move forwards in. The battle for me is not the tasks themselves but in embracing them in moderation and accepting imperfections.
I'd really like to rediscover the joy in everyday things as opposed to it all feeling like an exhausting list of chores that I am failing to keep up with. We shall see.

To celebrate the new year there's 10% off all yarns in my shop this month with the coupon code JANUARYSALE. As my items are already discounted that means that you save around 25% off the RRP. I hope you'll find something there to tempt you for a Winter project.
Have you set any new years resolutions?
A very happy 2013 to you both. No resolutions for me really, would like to eat a bit less and move a bit more but no exact goals to reach or fail. Hopefully you and I both can do what makes us happy :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, MumB - hopefully we can :o)
DeleteSorry everything went so awry for you over Christmas, no wonder you are looking forward to 2013. Your pizza looks lovely and a wonderful way to see in the New Year. Like you we were in bed early, but although that is our usual habit, this year it was because we are both suffering with nasty colds. Hey ho. Wishing you a more successful and happier New Year.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you're feeling better soon x
DeleteHappy New Year Hannah :-) No resolutions here, just hopes and dreams to make 2013 as good as it can be.
ReplyDeleteThank you. That sounds like a good plan :o)
DeleteHappy New Year to you and Cameron, Hannah! I hope 2013 is a year in which you can be kinder to yourself, if that's what you feel you need. I love that you write about these feelings, I've been stuck with no mojo for my blog for a while now. I have no fixed resolutions but have instead chosen three words to guide my decisions in 2013 : Simplicity, Vitality and Community (all of which will be covered by the Wholefood Kitchen course, SO pleased to be sharing this with you!). Hhmmm, maybe I should blog about the three words?! Off to buy some yarn from the sbop now ...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. I think being kinder to myself is definitely something I still need to work on. I like your three words idea, I hope you find your mojo again.
DeleteAnd thank you for your order!
Happy New Year! So sorry you had poorly C and appliances to deal with. We had the similar, 6yo had bad case of chickenpox which started with spots appearing on Christmas Day and our boiler has been broken since 23/12. I hope you have a fab 2013 and are more content with your direction and choices. Keep up the brilliant blogging too, I always enjoy your posts. Your blog is top of my must read list :)
ReplyDeleteAww thanks, Michelle :o)
DeleteI hope your 6yo isn't too itchy and the boiler gets repaired soon. Ours is down again today!
I haven't been back here in a very long time (or in blog-land, much) but wanted to stop by and say Happy New Year to you both! Sorry that the end of 2012 was so stressful for you. Wishing you lots of luck, creativity and love in 2013!
