There's something very honest about cats. Their sole pursuit in life is pleasure and they offer such clarity about what they do and don't enjoy.
And there's the cute factor...
Socks has so much character. He remains as playful now as he was when he arrived. He's so very loving, greeting me with kisses and loud purrs when he returns home after gallivanting around the garden and neighbourhood.
He's also stubborn as a mule - when he wants cuddles, nothing will stand in his way. He makes it clear when it's time for me to take a break from knitting or writing by sitting directly on top of my hands and refusing to move!

He shows intelligence by having completely different relationships with both Cameron and I - going to Cameron when he wants to play games and to me for cuddles and love. He's also very aware that I'm the leader of the household - if there's an issue, like his water bowl being knocked over or something blocking his way, he goes out of his way to communicate with me to sort it out. I didn't realise that cats differentiated or really noticed these things as long as they're well fed but he shows signs of being very clever.
The tender moments when he completely trusts me - sprawled out over me, legs stretched long, relaxed and calm while I stroke his belly - are such an honour.
It's hard to believe this was less than a year ago.
He's beautiful. I love having cats as part of our family, our old ladies are around 15 years old now and are true grumps in their later years, but are still very loving. Our 6 month old kitties are crazy balls of energy who keep us all on our toes x
ReplyDeleteHe is gorgeous, isn't he?!
DeleteCats are really good communicators for those like you who get to know them. I've had many cats over the years, two of them lived to twenty. Our youngest cat Nika starts knocking things off the desk and shelves if she thinks her needs haven't been met quickly enough. She knows this will get our attention for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh yes - Socks does that if I'm not quick enough to respond!
DeleteOh he's gorgeous! I love cats and literally can't wait until we get another. Our Ruby died last year and we've held off getting another - the time has to be right, doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteI think they are the ideal pets. Less work than dogs but just as much joy and love :-)
Aww, I'm sorry you lost Ruby x
DeleteHe is really adorable, and the kitten pic is sooo cute too. I desperately want a kitty, ours died about a year ago and I miss him so much. It's so nice sharing your home with furry friends isn't it. They do love cardboard boxes don't they. Have you seen Maru on YouTube? Brilliant viewing.
ReplyDeleteI haven't but I shall go and look - thanks :o)
DeleteHaha - hilarious! Thanks for sharing. Cameron will love Maru!
DeleteHe is beautiful! He looks just like our cat The General, is he a Norwegian too? They are exceptionally good at climbing, even for cats. I've seen the General scale a wall, it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe vet says he's a Maine Coon but he does do a lot of climbing.
DeleteDoesn't a year go by quickly? Yep! I think it does, he is a beautiful cat and love the photo of him in the box :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. Far too fast!
DeleteWow, he has grown! I noticed that too, that cats seem to notice different people inrelation to the household, the last two cats only ever go into my bedroom despite having full reign of the entire house, as though they knew they're okay to sleep on my bed. Funny and cute arent they. :)

Hi Mel, they're funny and cute indeed!
DeleteThere's just something about boxes - they're the perfect cat magnet! He's adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, he does love his boxes!
DeleteHe's grown up into a very handsome cat!
ReplyDeleteCats aren't daft, of course they differentiate :)
Thanks, Nikki :o)
