After a bit of drama about padlocks, we finally got into the plot on Friday night and it's really big. On the pic here Cameron is standing about half way/two thirds of the way down.

It has been badly neglected and so is going to require a lot of hard work but we are still super excited about it.
It has a shed already which is fantastic and we found some fruit bushes in between the weeds at the sides of the plot. We also spotted a big wooden box-style double compost bin which will be very handy.

Cameron was initially unimpressed but has since become a convert and wants to spend all his time up at the allotment discovering, blowing dandelion wishes, stamping out paths, catching bugs (plenty for him to go at!) and more. Across the path there is a plot with many chickens who are very sociable and Cameron likes that he can talk and talk about his obsessions and ideas and they will follow him and pay attention so very loyally!
It's hard not to be overwhelmed with the amount of work there is to do but I think we are going to have a lot of fun up at the "lottie" this Summer!
that does look like a lot of work, but at least still time to get some stuff in this year. Wonder why you had to wait so long if there was a plot being so unloved!
ReplyDeleteWow, best news ever, your excitement is felt all the way across the ether (or something like that lol).
ReplyDeleteYou go girl (and laddie).

How exciting for you both.here's hoping for a long hot summer to spend hours exploring and by the looks of it quite a bit of digging!!:-) xx
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky, I don't think I'll ever get one! Will you keep chickens as well? There seems to be plenty of room.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies, we are super excited!
ReplyDeleteLisa - we are allowed to keep pigeons, hens or ponies. We might get chickens next year when we know we are definitely committed to the site. I certainly like the idea of keeping chickens.
OMG it's huge!! I'm trying to work out if it's the ones down near my grandma's house lol!
ReplyDeleteI know Tech - I'm sure it gets bigger every time to visit!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm giving my location away by saying it's in the middletown area, up the "hen pens".
ah, no then :) Thought they'd be a fair trek if they were. I'm so envious that you get a shed and can keep chickens. We had an allotment here but we couldn't use it as you weren't allowed sheds, and we couldn't physically lug the tools up and down all the time, so we had to let it go. You weren't allowed to keep animals either although the allotment itself was teeny anyway. The allotments in the next big town past us are enormous, people have poly tunnels and all sorts on them! We keep trying to persuade DH that we want chickens, but he's not in agreement... yet ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame about not being allowed a shed on your allotment, what an odd set up. Most things seem to go on our ones, I'm especially pleased that they aren't strict because it will take me a while to get on top of all those buttercups!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the plots near me have polytunnels, I have room for a small ish one but I doubt I'd find anyone to come and help me erect it lol.
That's great news. It's a huge plot. Lots of hard work but so much potential.
