Captain Underpants Super Power Fudge

At the weekend we made some Captain Underpants Super Power Fudge to go in Cameron's fabric advent calendar. We used the chocolate fudge recipe from Festivals Family and Food which is orangy chocolate fudge and a bit of imagination. I've never made fudge this particular way before, previous years we have used recipes that called for icing sugar and there was no boiling involved. This time we had to boil the sugar for 10 minutes and we got to marvel at the lava type liquid bubbling away.

We cut it into generous cubes and wrapped each individually in foil to put in the calendar. (rubbish picture, sorry!)

There was a lot of ice in the garden and Cameron spent hours out in the garden playing and smashing and having a great time. In the evening we got our Christmas books and wreath out of storage and lit the candle for the first Sunday of advent.
On Monday it SNOWED!! Anyone who has been reading this blog from the start will know that we have been desperately wishing for snow for years as Cameron had never experienced proper snow to play with. There was only a dusting on Monday but it was quite magical to watch.
We went to the second monthly meeting of the parents group where I panicked madly last time and the centre was heavily decorated with Christmas decorations. The cooks had been baking all morning and there were fresh mince pies and cookies, the staff were all wearing silly Santa hats too. Cameron had a really great time again and I managed not to panic too badly.

On Tuesday we woke up to quite a bit more snow - enough to play in this time but Cameron insisted on staying home and playing in the garden and back street.
He made a snow baby with a little carrot nose and conker eyes.
(Gloves long abandoned at this stage!)

When he was too cold he came inside and we had warm drinks and watched a film while making some paper snowflakes for our kitchen window.

He went back out for most of the afternoon and then we baked bread, mainly as an excuse to stand by the oven and get warm!
In the evening there was a really loud sound like an explosion and all the electric for the entire area went off. We both (at different ends of the house) saw a huge blue flash of light out of our windows. It was extremely scary, we had no idea what was happening. I was in the bath when it happened and had to try and find clothes and get dry in complete darkness!
We sat at the kitchen table with our advent candles and leaf lanterns from last week for light and played cards for a while. It took about two hours for the electric to come back on but we still have no idea what caused the loud noise and flashes of light :o/

Update: according to a local online forum, lightning struck a pylon and took out a substation which is just a few streets away from us.
Glad to know it wasn't just us going crazy and there really was a big blue flash of light!
